I Blame the Media…

Someone on facebook wrote:

"...baffled by the amount of young people that are trying on homosexuality like they try on shoes. What has caused this sudden influx of gayness?"

This caused me to really pay attention to things going on around me.. I thought enough of the question to do an experiment.. So I decided to take note of the homosexuality witnessed just in one week in primetime media.. (because what people do in their own lives is their business)

Findings (of just a few shows that I don't watch on a normal basis, but for the purpose of the experiment made an exception):

Heroes - The college cheerleader and her roomate kiss

Melrose Place - Female was hired to try to "persuade" one of the characters to work for another PR firm by coming on to her sexually.

Gossip Girl - There was a 3 some.

Brothers and Sisters - One of the main characters is gay

Greek - Some of the main characters are gay

House - "13" is bi-sexual

And probably the largest one talked about this week, American Music Awards - Chris Lambert kisses his keyboardist. Kids are still awake people!! Children are very impressionable at ANY age, they're still learning right from wrong. (If you're an adult and you feel homosexuality is right for you, then all power to you, but as a heterosexual parent, I think I should have a right to be at least warned if there's a potential for my kids to see something I'd rather them not.  I don't even let my kids see GI Joe because I think it's too violent. So don't start in on me w/ the morality issues.)

Now GLAAD is going off on CBS for blurring out the kiss..

In a lame attempt at trying to cover their tracks, the following morning when discussing how wrong his actions were, CBS then proceed to SHOW the Britney/Madonna Kiss from a few years ago WITHOUT blurring it. Are we as a society trying to create a doublestandard here? Is it "ok" or "acceptible" to see women all over eachother, but it's perceived to be "more wrong" when men do it? I've heard that it's more "sensual" and "seductive" to see two women together, but to see two men is just... GROSS..

I'm not one to blame the media for anything I do, but I know that others (weakminded) ARE influenced by what they see or hear. I also know that the media in efforts to be more "realistic" tries to mimic life. Some easily influenced people try to mirror what they see as acceptable, and the media feeds off of life. It's a symbiotic relationship. This really is no different than the impulse to buy something you see a celebrity wearing on a show, or something you see on a commercial. Homosexuality is now being "advertised" in pretty much the same way. It's being passed on as "normal" or even "glamourous".

In a way, I DO blame the media for not giving us a choice or proper warning, and in another way I don't. And you can't say, "If you don't like it, don't watch TV." That would be like saying don't open your eyes, because it IS everywhere. In the media's defense, this would be a completely different conversation if a major TV station made a new show that had NO Blacks, NO Hispanics, and NO Asians. Well guess what? Homosexuals are also a group that have to be represented as well.

At the end of the week, I've found myself back to being de-sensitized to the whole thought of homosexuality in the media once again. This was just an exercise in thought for me. It never really got me emotionally "riled up" or even angry. But I guess that goes to me not really being influenced by what others do. I'm content in my life and feel that everyone deserves to be happy and I wish everyone was, but that's never going to be the case as long as people are different from one another. Someone HAS to have something to say.. I think that's the definition of a "HATER".  I would hate for someone to have put in their facebook "Man, what's up with all these African Americans  in the media. Of course they'd probably use a different word. So what can you do? Maybe they should see it from that "side of the tracks".

Here's my closing thoughts: I'm not taking sides, nor passing judgement here. I'm just trying to get to the root of someone's question and it provoked my interest. The media mimics real life. Homosexuality has been around longer than any of us reading this blog.. It was a staple in the Roman Empire. It was thought to make a king stronger to have young boys as concubines. It was socially acceptable then and over time has become taboo. Well, I guess it's coming back around again because it's being readily fed through the media. I think what made homosexuals creep back into the metaphorical "closet" was the first thought that AIDS/HIV was a "homosexual" disease in the 80s-90s. So of course you wouldn't want to be perceived as sick just because of your sexual preference. That doesn't mean homosexuality went away, it was just more "underground". As we've become more educated and accepting of change (I know you can't argue that we're more accepting, we have a black president for goodness sake), more socially liberal, if you will, people find it empowering to show their true thoughts, beliefs and diversity. So you have more people opening the door to that "closet" and stepping out. To my the original question, I don't think they're "trying it on" I think they're just being honest with themselves.

NBA or NFL?

GUESS WHICH ONE!!!

Even if you aren't a sports fan this is very interesting!

36 have been accused of spousal abuse

7 have been arrested for fraud

19 have been accused of writing bad checks

117 have directly or indirectly bankrupted at least

2 businesses

3 have done time for assault

71...repeat 71 cannot get a credit card due to bad credit

14 have been arrested on drug-related charges

8 have been arrested for shoplifting

21 currently are defendants in lawsuits,

and

84 have been arrested for drunk driving in the last year.

Can you guess which organization this is?

NBA or NFL?

Give up yet?

NEITHER....

NBA nor NFL!!

It's the 535 members of the United States Congress... The same group of folks that crank out hundreds of new laws each year designed to keep the rest of us in line.

Not In My Neighborhood

When I moved to Wylie in '04 I saw the growth and potential of the area. Heard birds chriping in the trees, and saw all of the empty housing plots, as I was the 7th house on the block. I envisioned seeing my kids play in the front yard and us tossing around the ball and yelling, "Hello" to the neighbors and all of our kids playing football in the street as I did as a kid in DeSoto.

Well, while reading the news today, I came across a story that popped my metaphorical "bubble" and brought be back to the harsh reality of today's society. Even in the serene city of Wylie, evil lurks and rears it's ugly head. This is a cruel world we live in people. And just when you begin to relax and think you're safe, something like this can happen.

Please read

As a parent, husband and PERSON, this is HORRENDOUS!! I mean seriously, this man was a father of 3 and can't even go into his front yard and correct some vagrants that are driving crazily in a residential area? They could have caused harm to themselves, let alone kids that may have been playing in the streets. As someone that has a modified car, I know how dangerous those cars can be and I chose to exercise some SENSE when driving in residential areas. Acts like these are the reason that the majority of the population shy away from the modding scene, or think we're a bunch of idiots.

I feel for this man's family first because they lost a key figure in their household. However, I also feel for the people that did this because I can only imagine the type of parents that raised these kids. To murder someone for correcting you? To leave, then come back and beat a man to death, that means they went and thought about it, and thought that was a proper course of action to take as a collective group. At no point as a teen did I ever think of killing anyone for ANY reason. Nothing was that serious. Maybe that is why my parents didn't even allow me to ride in vehicles with other teenage drivers.

I ask you, are we not allowed to protect our homes from people that show no good sense? This man didn't show any violent tendencies, nor contempt towards these kids, eventhough I beleive that may have been what they needed. (Spare the rod, spoil the child) Do we have to start wearing our handguns on our hip when we walk out the front door now for fear someone might sneak up behind us and hit us over the head? Even when he was being beaten, he didn't fight back because they were kids. I'll tell you now, he's a "better man" than me.. But a "better man" is now dead, so if someone walks up on me with the same intent, I guarantee the outcome won't be the same. You won't be reading about "me" in the papers..

Sugar and Spice and… Did you see that?

Man... Did you see the BYU vs NMU Girls Soccer game last night? Me either.... Well apparently, we missed some MMA action. To describe it as anything less would be inaccurate..

Check THIS out...(click the image)

Now you see what I mean? That girl was BRUTAL. I've seen a lot of soccer in my day, actually hope to shoot a girls soccer tourney next week, but I've never, ever, seen such a repeated display of brutal hostility in team sports especially in one game. Where was the ref with the cards? Isn't that supposed to be avoided? It's obvious these ?young ladies (I use that term loosely) had some "other" issues that they needed to work out. I would hate to think they were coached to do these things to gain an advantage.?

The message here? They STILL lost..Make sure you're playing the sport you signed up for. Concentrate on playing soccer and not submitting your opponent, that's an ENTIRELY different sport.

Now I'd be VERY interested to see what type of recourse she's dealt. Considering the theme of this year's NCAA sports was supposed to be "sportsmanship". That was one of the underlying reasons why LeGarrette Blount was suspended so harshly during the first game of the season from Oregon University for his punch during the Boise State game.

I don’t get it.. Are “We” Serious?

I was reading the other day about a cheerleader for the Dallas Cowboys that has been getting all this negative press, and slammed in blogs?for her decision to dress up as Lil Wayne.

Read about it here..

Here are a few pics..

People are giving her grief because she put on brown body paint w/ tats and a dread wig? Are we serious? People are comparing this to BLACKFACE? I think people need to read their history books a little closer. Blackface was a method of ridicule and exaggerated the features of African Americans. I hate to break it to ya, but THIS ACTUALLY IS HOW LIL WAYNE LOOKS!!! In no way are any of his features exaggerated.. He really does have all those tats, he really does have a grill, he really does have that styrophoam cup surgically attached to his hand, and pants hanging half way off his rear and in all honesty, he's probably darker than this from all of the tatoos he has all over his body. I think she did a very good job with her impersonation and put a lot of thought into her costume and even put the tatoos in the right places. KUDDOS!!!

I don't understand how can anyone get any angrier at a white woman dressed in brown body paint to look like?Lil Wayne, ?than other white people dressed as Mariachis (Mexicans) or men dressed as women (trans-gender) or how about how many people walk around on Halloween dressed as zombies (disprespecting the dead). Is there still this much sensitivity to what white people say, ?or do, to blacks, and that much insensitivity to every other race? Have we not progressed as a people, better yet, as a COUNTRY? Would people get angry if white people put on makeup and said they were Barack Obama? Would it even get as much press?

I think people really need to lighten up and let Halloween be the open expose of ideas and fun. Or not participate and leave those that WANT to participate do so. We need to stop taking things so seriously.. Think about it, if she didn't have the brown body paint, she wouldn't look ANYTHING LIKE Lil Wayne.? I guess then people would have found a way to say she was racist anyway.

As an African American male, I'll be one of the ones to say, this did not offend me in the least. I don't even consider this racist. She was just mimicing a pop icon, just as any other person might. Someone was also T-Pain in the first image. She was just the scapegoat due to HER personal status as a pop figure, and it was thought, "she should know better". Why? I don't give racism any power over me or let it define any limitations that I can't overcome. WE hold the power to decide what?affects us and what doesn't. People that view this as a slap in the face to African Americans in my mind are some pretty weak-minded people and need to progress and do some inner-reflection. Find some value of self and move on.

Tony/Yash Car Shoot – North Dallas

Met up with my friend Yash from the G35Driver forums. We are both passionate about photography and the emotion that it provokes. We're also really into our cars and frequently use our modified Gs as subjects. We shot at a few locations in the Uptown location and Deep Ellum.

It was an experience to say the least. During the shoot, we attracted several onlookers one of which was a van driving down the street and slowed down to observe. Unfortunately, the driver of a new C-Class Benz wasn't paying attention and rear-ended the van. At another location, we were greeted by the publishers of a local teen magazine and asked some information about us to feature us in their next issue.? They took some snaps of our cars as well.
