Photo Challenge 1 Entry (16Niss)- Hotness

I was invited to participate in a photo challenge on the 16NiSS.com website this week and the theme was "Hotness". Since I've been experimenting with my Hulk action figures and off camera flash, I decided to use them again for this theme as well. I created a composite of the Hulks fighting and also took a long exposure(10 seconds) of one of my stove burners and focus layered to get the most detail in the fire... This was my entry for "HOTNESS"..

  1. This is really cool. I need to learn how to do this. Do I need a special type of camera or any other equipment?

  2. @JD – Well I used an off camera flash setup and my digital SLR. To layer the photos together and do all my post production, I use photoshop CS4.

Depending on the effect you’re trying to do, you can get a decent enough picture with a point and shoot. You won’t be able to control the lighting, and you’ll have more post production to do, but you can still get a decent image with them now days.

Now Photoshop is normally the large learning curve for people.. I’ve been using Photoshop since version 4 (about 11 yrs) and I’m still learning new things or better ways of doing things everyday.

I’m going to start posting Photoshop tutorials and also tips to get better images with a point and shoot as well in coming blogs. If you have any specific things you’d like to learn, shoot me an email..

  3. Nice work. The Ciroc bottle is dope too. Yeah, I learned a long time ago that starting with a good quality original will save you alot of post production time…..but Photoshop still rules. Keep up the good work.

  4. @Roy – True words indeed.. A quality original saves you a LOT of time..
