Tony/Yash Car Shoot – North Dallas

Met up with my friend Yash from the G35Driver forums. We are both passionate about photography and the emotion that it provokes. We're also really into our cars and frequently use our modified Gs as subjects. We shot at a few locations in the Uptown location and Deep Ellum.

It was an experience to say the least. During the shoot, we attracted several onlookers one of which was a van driving down the street and slowed down to observe. Unfortunately, the driver of a new C-Class Benz wasn't paying attention and rear-ended the van. At another location, we were greeted by the publishers of a local teen magazine and asked some information about us to feature us in their next issue.? They took some snaps of our cars as well.

  1. Love colors. Great work!

  2. Damn the car is looking hot!!

  3. sick cars… love’m..

  4. Locations were perfect!! Loved how the Orange light reflected off the wall onto the Paint, Loved the Pic where ya going against the grain w/the One way Sign!! These 2 Carz are ready 2 be in a Magazine 4real!! Only thing missing was Action Shotz!! Keep’em Coming!!

  5. …Nice, the next to last photo is my personal favorite. The car stands out but almost gets lost in the wall @ the same time.

  6. HOT HOT HOT!!!

    Good stuff Tony.
    Keep’em coming :D

  7. Car’s looking good, tWalls.

Photography’s excellent, but all of your shots seem to be close ups, with similar angles… for the next shoot, I say keep rules of thirds in mind and use a wider angle lens/back up more.

    Otherwise, $$$.

  8. This was so good!!! The colors were so nice against the cars!! And the sun hit them perfectly. My favorite pic was your car with the “One Way” sign….wonderful job as always!

  9. Both cars are hot to deaf!!!!………Excellent photography and location. The pictures look like they belong in calendar pin ups!!!! Good work and Awesome Cars

  10. Thanks for the criticism KHahn… I guess that comes from my portraiture background.. That’s still what grabs my eye. I see “parts” rather than the “whole.” That’s always been what draws me.. Traits of the car, little details.. Still getting used to automotive photography. I have some wide angle shots of both cars that I’ll add to the gallery. I’m actually looking to invest in a 17-55 2.8 next so that I can replace my 18-55 kit lens.. Over time, the 18-55 has gotten unbearibly dirty w/ dust and that’s why I shy away from the wider end of that lens, takes so much Pshop to clean the pics, that it’s not even worth it. Thought about looking at the 10-22mm but I doubt I’d even shoot that wide and end up just throwing on my 28-75.. I do, however, like the way the wideangle makes the front look wide and stalky.. Maybe I’ll rent one for a shoot and try it out..

  11. Thanks LBII .. Yeah.. I was wondering if anyone would catch that.. I saw that sign, and no one was coming down the street, I HAD to get it.. HA!!! Thing is, as I was laying on the ground shooting, a motorcycle cop came around that building.. Didn’t even see me, but saw my boy shooting HIS car.. They made eye contact, and the cop just gave him a thumbs up and kept it moving.. I on the other hand got off the ground and JETTED.. Guess my car blended in.

  12. Mayor.. I shot this one like that because I liked how the little dude on the wall was like, “Look at this..” if you notice, he’s pointing at the car.

  13. Absolutely Shin… “This is only the beginning…”

  14. Lamonica..Thanks so much.. You’re one of the few that have said something about that.. hehehehee.. hope they don’t mail me a ticket for that one.

  15. These pictures looks GREAT! G35 FTW .. cars look good, very clean! great back drops. 10/10

  16. Thanks Skyline.. We were driving all around deep ellum to find spots that brought out both of our cars.. We’ve been trying to get together to do a shoot for a while now, I have a feeling this won’t be the last you see of our cars in the same frame.. (Devilish laugh)

  17. Very slick! The cars rock and the photography is awesome.

  18. I agree with kHahn. A lot of the full car shots are very close up with no space on the edges of the frame. It actually makes me feel cramped/suffocated when I look at those shots. A car is a mode of transportation used to move you somewhere. Although these are static shots of the car, you still want to feel like this car can move you. You don’t want to feel boxed in. Rule of thirds is very important in car photography IMO. But balance in the shot and adequate space are equally important to the car itself.

  19. Waijai, thanks for the criticism, I intend to work on more wide angled shots in the future where I can extend the amount of space around the car in a controlled setting… I guarantee, based on where we were shooting, the area to the left and right would have detracted from the image, not enhanced it. However, like I said w/ KHahn, filling the frame w/ my subject is part of my style, although rule of thirds is actually still followed. Just as my slight tilting of the frame is also part of my style. I will, however, experiment with other aspects of standardized automotive photography in future shoots. Thanks again for taking the time to throw me some ideas.

  20. Dennis.. hey stranger.. Good to see you’re still alive… Thanks man. Need to set up a shoot for that sweet bike man.. Or even a studio shoot while you’re recording your next hit.. That’d be fun.

  21. Great photos! Natural born artist with the camera. You guys need to let me in on the next shoot. I would love to have some photos of our cars but photography wasn’t in my cards when God made me. I make one heck of an assistant.

  22. Thanks hound.. Good to have you around bro..Big things planned in 2010.
